Fishing Navajo Lake Navajo Dam Lake is largest lake in the State of New Mexico it and spans southwest Colorado as well as northern New Mexico. The lake, created in 1962, is 35 miles long and offers 125 miles of shoreline. Navajo Dam is one of the largest earthen dams in the world. At an elevation of 6100 feet, summer temperatures in the area average 80 to 100 degrees offering warm days and cool nights. The New Mexico Bass Fishing Federation holds yearly tournaments on the lake, so whether you are a serious fisherman or a novice, a tackle, bait or flyfisherman, this lake offers an adventure for you! There is a full service Marina with plenty of boat rentals and a nice boat launching area. There is also a seasonal restaurant with an adjacent gas station in the area. Don’t have a boat? There are plenty of designated walk-in areas as well as wet wading available along the shoreline. Many species of fish inhabit the lake, including Rainbow and Brown Trout, and abundant Kokanee Salmon can even be found in the deeper colder waters of the lake. Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Crappie, Northern Pike, Yellow Perch, and Channel Catfish also inhabit the shallower warmer waters of the lake.
Navajo Lake boasts the Colorado state record for smallmouth bass, and New Mexico competes with the state record for Kokanee salmon. With such a prolific variety of species available, Navajo Dam Lake is bound to create a memorable fishing experience for you. Don’t forget to stop by our well-stocked store.
